Widows Christmas Food Bank 2024 - Oriade LCDA
The 2024 annual HOGWIN Widows Christmas Food Bank held at Oriade LCDA.
Hands of God Widows Support Initiative (HOGWIN) hosted 55 widows at the premises of Redeeming Lovel Chapel for the distribution of food packs to identified widows from Oriade locality.
The annual Widows Christmas Foodbank which is a flagship program of HOGWIN, holds every yuletide season in the spirit of Christmas to reach out and share food packs to identified indigent widows in several communities.
Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Mrs. Adubi thanked the organization for reaching out to widows particularly at this time as the economic situation was causing untold hardship on families and widows in particular. She prayed for more intervention and particularly for government support to HOGWIN so that the organization will be able to do more for widows and their dependent children. In the same vein, Mrs. Bassey the program coordinator, herself a widow, encouraged the beneficiaries to find strength in their status as widows and charged them to lead more productive lives lives because their dependent children would look to them for inspiration and guidance. She emphasized that widowed is only a status and not a death sentence. Mrs. Nelson also reiterated that there is no shame in widowhood and as she encouraged widows to look to God for sustenance while encouraging them to become empowered by taking up vocations to keep busy.
In closing Mr. phranklin Audu, Executive Director, Hands of God Widows Support Initiative (HOGWIN) thanked the beneficiaries and extolled their resilience in the face of the challenges they endure as widows. He encouraged and admonished that widows take up vocations and skills that may help them lead more productive lives as widowhood does not confer redundance upon anyone.
